Chongqing's 11-month international cargo volume up 11.6pc (HK SHIPPING GAZETTE)
THE Chinese manufacturing area around Chongqing at the head of navigation for the Yangtze River, posted an 11.6 per cent increase in international shipment volumes to 6.84 million tonnes from January to November 2012, Xinhua reported.
Import container volume increased to 398,000 boxes during the period while exports came to 299,000 units, giving an overall rise of 22.1 per cent, of which 27.8 per cent of the boxes were laden.
In this period, Chongqing's waterway cargo increased 10.6 per cent to 6.69 million tonnes. Imports grew nine per cent to 4.72 million tonnes. Exports grew 12 per cent to 1.98 million tonnes.
Waterway import and export containers climbed 24.7 per cent to 288,000 TEU. Imports surged 50 per cent to 99,000 TEU while exports rose 14.5 per cent to 189,000 TEU.
The city's ground transportation volume soared 144.6 per cent in this period to 69,146 tonnes. Import and export containers surged 296.7 per cent to 10,801 TEU. Imports rocketed 5,590 per cent to 5,004 million TEU. Exports surged 120 per cent to 5,797 TEU.
Import and export containers increased 22.1 per cent to 398,000 TEU, of which 299,000 TEU were laden, an increase of 27.8 per cent.
